WHO IS A VOLUNTEER?
In Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Delta Sigma Theta or Delta), any individual participating in Delta’s youth initiatives is defined as a volunteer. This applies to members of Delta Sigma Theta and non-members (i.e. Deltas and non-Deltas) Delta Sigma Theta has three national youth enrichment programs designed to promote the development of young girls and boys. These include, but are not limited to, Delta GEMS, Delta Academy and EMBODI (collectively “youth initiatives”).

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Complete the application process
- Pass a criminal background check
- Complete risk management volunteer training
- Sign and abide by the youth initiative code of ethics
- Recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse/neglect
- Abide by Delta’s mandatory reporting policy
Risk Management is the process of assessing risk and acting in such a manner, or prescribing policies and procedures, to minimize loss associated with such risk.
Risk Management is important because it protects our organization, ensures the safety of all participants in our youth programs, evaluates allocation of resources, focuses on the enrichment of our youth participants, and focuses on prevention.

VOLUNTEER FORMS & TRAINING REGISTRATION
If you are interested in volunteering with a Delta Youth Initiative Program, you MUST complete these 3 steps:
1. Volunteer Application
A completed volunteer application is valid for three years. If you have on file a completed application from the last three (3) years, please complete the Annual Confirmation Status and Information Update Form.

2. Background Check
For the Southwest Region, all background check screenings conducted by InfoMart are valid for three years.

- Confirm your 3-year background check eligibility period - contact Risk Management at riskmanagement@fortworthdst.org.
- Background check fee averages $65 - $130 and credit card payment is due at the time of submission.
- If you need to complete a background check, it is recommended to check the box requesting a copy of your background screening report.
3. Risk Management Volunteer Training
Volunteer trainings are required annually for all volunteers, current and new. Preferably, complete your background check and submit volunteer application prior to attending training.
There are currently no upcoming volunteer training sessions.
Note: If you are more than 15 minutes late to the training, you will be required to register for another session.

Complete if you have a child or youth participant you plan to enroll in a Delta Youth Initiative Program.
